Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 46:5

Abu Ya'la said: I found in my book, from Ali ibn al-Ja'd, from Shu'bah, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from Ibn Abi Layla, who said: Sahl ibn Hunayf and Qays ibn Sa'd were sitting in al-Qadisiyyah when a funeral passed by them, so they stood up. It was said to them, "It is only one of the people of the land (a dhimmi/non-Muslim)." They said, "The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had a funeral pass by him, so he stood up. It was said, 'It is the funeral of a disbeliever.' He said, 'Is it not a soul?'" Abu Ya'la said: I found in my book, from Ali ibn al-Ja'd, from Shu'bah, and there was no mark of hearing (sama') upon it, so I doubted it.
