Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 6:26

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, the nephew of Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from his uncle, who said: 'Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas informed me, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) gave to a group, and Sa'd was sitting among them. Sa'd said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) left out one whom he did not give to, and he was the most pleasing of them to me. So I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with you regarding so-and-so? For by Allah, I truly see him as a believer." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Or a Muslim." He said: So I remained silent for a little while, then what I knew of him overcame me, so I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with you regarding so-and-so? For by Allah, I truly see him as a believer." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Or a Muslim." He said: So I remained silent for a little while, then what I knew of him overcame me, so I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with you regarding so-and-so? For by Allah, I truly see him as a believer." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Or a Muslim. I truly give to a man, while another is more beloved to me than him, for fear that he might be cast into the Fire upon his face."
