Hadith 6:27
Zuhayr narrated to us, Shababah ibn Sawwar narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Ziyad ibn Mikhraq, from Ibn 'Abayah, from a freed slave of Sa'd, that Sa'd saw a son of his praying while he was supplicating, saying: "I ask You for Paradise, and its fruits, and its bliss, and its spouses," and the like, and he said much of that. And he said: "And I seek refuge in You from the Fire, and its chains, and its shackles, and its blazing flame," and the like. Sa'd was listening. When he finished his prayer, Sa'd said to him: "You have asked for a great bliss and sought refuge from a great evil. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'There will be people who transgress in supplication.'" And Sa'd recited: "Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like the transgressors" (Al-A'raf: 55). He said: I do not know if he attributed it to the Prophet (ﷺ) or if it was from the speech of Sa'd. "And it is sufficient for you to say: 'I ask You for Paradise and whatever brings one closer to it of speech or deed, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and whatever brings one closer to it of speech or deed.'"
