Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 6:59

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Sufyan ibn 'Uyayna narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from 'Amir ibn Sa'd, from his father, who said: I became ill in the year of the Conquest with an illness from which I was on the verge of death. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to visit me during it. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have much wealth and no one inherits from me except a daughter. Shall I bequeath two-thirds of my wealth?" He said: "No." I said: "Then half?" He said: "No." I said: "Then a third?" He said: "The third, and the third is large—or much. Indeed, that you leave your heirs wealthy is better than that you leave them dependent, begging from people. You will not spend any expenditure seeking thereby the Face of Allah, but you will be rewarded for it, even the morsel you lift to the mouth of your wife." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, will I be left behind from my migration?" He said: "You will not be left behind after me, so that you perform a deed seeking thereby the Face of Allah, but you will increase in elevation and degree. And perhaps you will be left behind until some people benefit by you and others are harmed by you. O Allah, complete for my companions their migration and do not turn them back on their heels. But the miserable one is Sa'd ibn Khawla." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) lamented for him that he died in Mecca.
