Hadith 6:69

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat ibn Nasr narrated to us, he said: Al-Suddi claimed, from Mus'ab ibn Sa'd, from his father, who said: When the day of the conquest of Makkah arrived, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) granted security to the people, except for four men and two women. He said: "Kill them, even if you find them clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah: 'Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl, 'Abdullah ibn Khatal, Miqyas ibn Subabah, and 'Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh." As for 'Abdullah ibn Khatal, he was overtaken while he was clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah. Sa'id ibn Hurayth and 'Ammar ibn Yasir raced toward him, and Sa'id outpaced 'Ammar—and he was the younger of the two men—so he killed him. As for Miqyas ibn Subabah, the people overtook him in the marketplace. As for 'Ikrimah, he boarded a ship, and a storm struck them. The people of the ship said to the people of the ship: "Be sincere, for your gods do not avail you of anything here." 'Ikrimah said: "If nothing saves me in the sea except sincerity, then nothing will save me on land except it. O Allah, You have a covenant upon me that if You save me from what I am in, I will go to Muhammad until I place my hand in his hand, and I will surely find him forgiving and generous." He said: So he came and accepted Islam. As for 'Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh, he hid with 'Uthman ibn 'Affan. When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) called the people to the pledge of allegiance, he brought him until he stood him before the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). He said: "O Messenger of Allah, accept the pledge of 'Abdullah." He raised his head and looked at him three times, each time refusing, then he accepted his pledge after the third time. Then he turned to his companions and said: "Was there not a sensible man among you who would stand up to this person when he saw me withhold my hand from his pledge, and kill him?" They said: "We did not know, O Messenger of Allah, what was in your heart. Why did you not signal to us with your eye?" He said: "It is not appropriate for a Prophet to have a treacherous eye."
