Hadith 6:93
Zuhayr narrated to us, Isma'il bin Ibrahim narrated to us, from Ibn 'Awn, from 'Amr bin Sa'id, who said: We were with Humayd bin 'Abd al-Rahman in the slave market. He stood up from among us, then returned to us and said: "This is the last of three from the Banu Sa'd, all of whom have narrated this hadith to me." He said: Sa'd fell ill in Makkah, and the Prophet (ﷺ) came to visit him. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I fear that I will die in the land where Sa'd bin Khawlah died, so supplicate to Allah to heal me." He said: "O Allah, heal Sa'd," three times. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have much wealth, and I have no heir except a *kalalah* (a distant relative). Shall I bequeath half of my wealth?" He said: "No." He said: "Shall I bequeath a third of my wealth?" He said: "A third is large," or "A third is much." "Indeed, your charity from your wealth is charity for you, and your wife's eating from your food is charity, and your spending on your family is charity. And indeed, that you leave your family after you in a state of living," or he said, "in a state of wealth, is better than that they should beg from people."
