Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 122:2

Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Sami narrated to us, Sakin ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, Sayyar ibn Salamah al-Riyahi, Abu al-Minhal, narrated to us, who said: I entered with my father upon Abu Barzah al-Aslami, and I had two earrings in my ears that day, as I was a boy. Abu Barzah said: "I praise Allah that I have reached this morning while I am blaming this tribe of Quraysh. Such-and-such a person is here fighting for the sake of the world, and such-and-such a person is fighting for the sake of the world"—meaning Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan—until he mentioned Ibn al-Azraq. Then he said: "The most beloved of people to me are this group who are matted [with dust], whose bellies are lean from the wealth of the Muslims, and whose backs are light from their blood." He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The leaders are from Quraysh, [for you] three things: you have a right over them, and they have a right over you, as long as they do three things: as long as they judge and are just, and show mercy and are shown mercy, and make a covenant and fulfill it. Whoever among them does not do that, then upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all of mankind."
