And with the chain of narration, Abu al-Qasim Zahir ibn Tahir ibn Muhammad al-Shahhami informed us, Abu Sa’d Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Janzarudhi informed us, Abu ‘Amr Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Hamdan ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan al-Faqih informed us—reading to him in Jumada al-Akhirah in the year three hundred and seventy-five—Abu Ya’la Ahmad ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Muthanna al-Mawsili informed us, ‘Abd al-A’la ibn Hammad narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ishaq ibn ‘Abd Allah, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi ‘Amrah, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), in what he narrates from his Lord (Mighty and Majestic is He), who said: "My servant committed a sin, so he said: 'O my Lord, forgive my sin for me.' So He (Blessed and Exalted is He) said: 'My servant committed a sin, and he knew that he has a Lord who forgives the sin and punishes for the sin.' Then he returned and committed a sin, so he said: 'O my Lord, forgive my sin for me.' So He (Blessed and Exalted is He) said: 'My servant committed a sin, and he knew that he has a Lord who forgives the sin and punishes for the sin. Do what you wish, for I have forgiven you.'"
