Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 160:190

Yahya ibn Ayyub narrated to us, Ismail narrated to us, Amr informed me, from Sa’id, from Abu Hurayrah: That the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed from the morning prayer one day, then he came to the women in the mosque. He stood before them and said: "O assembly of women, I have not seen any deficient in intellect and religion who take away the hearts of men of understanding more than you. And I have seen that you are the majority of the people of the Fire on the Day of Resurrection, so draw near to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, as much as you are able." Among the women was the wife of Abdullah ibn Mas’ud. She went to Abdullah ibn Mas’ud and informed him of what she had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and she took some of her jewelry. Ibn Mas’ud said: "Where are you going with this jewelry?" She said: "I am drawing near to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and His Messenger (peace be upon him) with it, perhaps Allah will not make me among the people of the Fire." He said: "Come here, woe to you, give it as charity to me and my children, for I am a place for it." She said: "No, by Allah, until I go with it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." So she went to seek permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). They said: "This is Zaynab seeking permission, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Which Zaynab is it?" They said: "The wife of Abdullah ibn Mas’ud." He said: "Give her permission." She entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I heard a statement from you, so I returned to Ibn Mas’ud and told him, and I took some jewelry to draw near to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and to you, hoping that Allah will not make me among the people of the Fire. Ibn Mas’ud said to me: 'Give it as charity to me and my sons, for we are a place for it.' I said: 'Until I seek permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).'" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Give it as charity to his sons and to him, for they are a place for it." Then she said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say regarding what I heard from you when you stood before us: 'I have not seen any deficient in intellect and religion who take away the hearts of men of understanding more than you'? O Messenger of Allah, what is the deficiency of our religion and our intellect?" He said: "As for what I mentioned regarding the deficiency of your religion, it is the menstruation that afflicts you; one of you remains for as long as Allah wills that she remains, not praying and not fasting. That is the deficiency of your religion. And as for what I mentioned regarding the deficiency of your intellect, it is that the testimony of a woman is half the testimony [of a man]."
