Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 160:192

Muhammad ibn Bakkar narrated to us, Abu Ma'shar narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: Some of the poor people came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people of wealth and riches have taken away the worldly life and the Hereafter." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was alarmed and said: "And what is that?" They said: "They have wealth from which they give charity, and we have no wealth. They have wealth with which they go on military expeditions, and we have no wealth. They have wealth with which they perform Hajj, and we have no wealth." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Shall I not inform you of something by which you may catch up with their deeds? You glorify Allah (say *SubhanAllah*) after every prayer thirty-three times, and you praise Him (say *Alhamdulillah*) thirty-three times, and you magnify Him (say *Allahu Akbar*) thirty-four times; you will catch up with their deeds by that." He said: So they did that. The wealthy heard of that, so they did the same as their deeds. They said: "O Messenger of Allah, they have said the same as we have said." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "That is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills."
