Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 160:252

Hadaba narrated to us, Salam bin Miskin narrated to us, from Thabit, from Abdullah bin Rabah, from Abu Hurairah: That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set out toward Makkah to conquer it. He said to Abu Hurairah: "O Abu Hurairah, call out to the Ansar." So he said: "O company of Ansar, answer the Messenger of Allah." They came as if they had an appointment. He said: "Take this path, and let no one overlook you except that you put them to sleep," meaning: kill them. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) marched on, and Allah granted him victory. He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) circumambulated the House and prayed two rak'ahs, then he went out from the gate that is adjacent to al-Safa. He ascended al-Safa and addressed the people, while the Ansar were below him. The Ansar said to one another: "As for the man, compassion for his people and a desire for his village have taken hold of him." Then Allah the Exalted sent down revelation to him regarding what the Ansar had said. He said: "O company of Ansar, you say: 'As for the man, compassion for his people and a desire for his village have taken hold of him.' So who am I then? No, by Allah, I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. Indeed, the life is your life, and the death is your death." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we did not say that except out of fear that you would leave us." He said: "You are truthful in the sight of Allah and in the sight of His Messenger." By Allah, there was not one of them except that their throats were wet with the tears from their eyes.
