Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 119:4

Yahya ibn Ayyub narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abi Yazid al-Suda’i narrated to us, ‘Abbad al-Minqari narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, from Sa’id ibn al-Musayyib, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Medina while I was eight years old. My mother took my hand and went with me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, there is not a man or woman among the Ansar who has not given you a gift, and I have nothing with which to gift you except this son of mine, so take him and let him serve you as you wish." So I served the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for ten years. He never struck me a single blow, nor did he curse me, nor did he rebuke me, nor did he frown in my face. The first thing he advised me with was when he said: "O my son, keep my secret, and you will be a believer." My mother and the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to ask me about the secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but I would not tell them, and I will never tell the secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to anyone ever. He said: "O my son, perform wudu (ablution) thoroughly, and your two guardians (angels) will love you, and your lifespan will be increased. O Anas, be thorough in performing ghusl (full ablution) for janabah (major ritual impurity), for you will emerge from your washing place with no sin or fault upon you." I said: "How is the thoroughness, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Moisten the roots of the hair and cleanse the skin." "O my son, if you are able to always remain in a state of wudu, then do so, for whoever death comes to while he is in a state of wudu is granted martyrdom. O my son, if you are able to always be in prayer, then do so, for the angels pray for you as long as you are in prayer. O Anas, when you bow (ruku’), place your palms firmly on your knees, spread your fingers, and lift your elbows away from your sides. O my son, when you raise your head from bowing, place every limb in its position, for Allah will not look on the Day of Resurrection at one who does not straighten his back between his bowing and his prostration. O my son, when you prostrate, place your forehead and your palms firmly on the ground, and do not peck like a rooster, and do not sit like a dog—or he said, a fox. Beware of looking around during prayer, for looking around in prayer is destruction; if it must be done, then let it be in the voluntary prayer, not the obligatory one." "O my son, when you leave your house, do not let your eyes fall upon anyone from the people of the Qibla without greeting them with peace, for you will return forgiven. O my son, when you enter your home, greet yourself and your family with peace. O my son, if you are able to reach the morning and the evening with no deceit in your heart toward anyone, then do so, for it is easier for you in the reckoning. O my son, if you follow my advice, then nothing will be more beloved to you than death."
