Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 117:124

Shayban narrated to us, Ammarah ibn Zadhan narrated to us, Thabit al-Bunani narrated to us, from Anas, that Abu Talhah had a son who was called Abu Umayr. He said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to say: "O Abu Umayr, what did the *nughayr* (small bird) do?" He said: Then he passed away while Abu Talhah was absent in some of his gardens. The boy died, so Umm Sulaym stood up, washed him, shrouded him, and covered him with a garment. She said: "Let no one inform Abu Talhah until I am the one who informs him." Abu Talhah came, exhausted, while he was fasting. She perfumed herself for him and adorned herself for him, and she brought his dinner. He said: "What did Abu Umayr do?" She said: "He is at rest." So he ate dinner and had with her what a man has with his wife. Then she said: "O Abu Talhah, have you seen a household that borrowed a loan from a household, then the owners asked for it back—would they return it or keep it?" He said: "Rather, they would return it to them." She said: "Then seek the reward for Abu Umayr." He became angry and went off, just as he was, to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and informed him of what Umm Sulaym said and what she did. He said: "May Allah bless for you both what happened in your night." He said: So she became pregnant with Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah. When she delivered him, it was the seventh day. Umm Sulaym said to me: "O Anas, take this boy to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and this basket contains some *ajwah* (dates), so that he may be the one to perform the *tahnik* (chewing a date and rubbing it on the palate) for him and name him." The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stretched out his legs and laid him in his lap. He took a date and chewed it in his mouth, then placed it in the boy's mouth. The boy began to smack his lips. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "The Ansar refuse anything but the love of dates."
