Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 117:259

Thabit al-Bunani from Anas (RA)

Hadith 117:259

Zuhayr narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas: That the Jews, when a woman among them menstruated, would not eat with her, nor would they associate with her in the houses. The companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, asked the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, about that. So Allah revealed: "They ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is harm, so keep away from women during menstruation'" [Al-Baqarah: 222] until the end of the verse. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Do everything except sexual intercourse." This reached the Jews, and they said: "This man does not want to leave anything of our affairs without opposing us in it." Usayd ibn Hudayr and Abbad ibn Bishr came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the Jews said such and such, so shall we not have sexual intercourse with them?" The face of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, changed color until we thought he was angry with them. They went out, and a gift of milk met them. He sent for them and gave them to drink, so we knew that he was not angry with them.
