Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 117:67

Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr and others narrated to us, they said: Daylam ibn Ghazwan narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent a man from his companions to a leader among the leaders of the polytheists to invite him to Allah. He said, "Is this god whom you invite to, made of silver or of copper?" His statement became grave in the chest of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). He returned to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and informed him. He said, "Return to him and invite him to Allah." He returned, and he said to him the like of his statement. He came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and informed him. He said, "Return and invite him to Allah." Allah sent a thunderbolt upon him. He returned and said to him the like of his statement. He came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and informed him. He said, "Return to him and invite him to Allah." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was on the road, not knowing. He came to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and informed him that Allah had destroyed his companion. And there was revealed to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "And He sends thunderbolts and strikes with them whom He wills, while they dispute about Allah."
