Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 2:1

And with the chain of narration, Abu Ya'la Ahmad ibn Ali ibn al-Muthanna al-Mawsili narrated to us, saying: Shayban ibn Farrukh narrated to us, saying: Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas, who said: We were with Umar ibn al-Khattab in Medina, and we looked for the crescent moon. I was a man with sharp eyesight, so I saw it, and no one else claimed to have seen it besides me. I began saying to Umar, "Do you not see it?" But he could not see it. Umar said, "I will see it while I am lying on my bed." Then he began to speak to us about the people of Badr. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to show us the places where the people of Badr would fall the day before. He would say, "This is the place where so-and-so will fall tomorrow, if Allah wills." Umar said: By the One who sent him with the truth, they did not miss the boundaries that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had set. He said: They were placed in a well, one on top of the other. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went until he reached them and said, "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true." Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, are you speaking to bodies that have no souls in them?" He replied, "You are not more hearing to what I say than they are, except that they are unable to reply to me with anything."
