Musnad Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA)

مسند عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه

Hadith 2:111

Zakariya ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Isa narrated to us, Yunus ibn Ubayd narrated to us, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) went out at midday and found Abu Bakr in the mosque. He said, "What brought you out at this hour?" He said, "What brought you out brought me out, O Messenger of Allah." Then Umar ibn al-Khattab came, and he said, "O Ibn al-Khattab, what brought you out?" He said, "What brought you both out brought me out, O Messenger of Allah." Umar sat down, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) began speaking to them. Then he said, "Do you have any strength to go to these palm trees so that we may obtain food, drink, and shade?" We said, "Yes." He said, "Let us go to the house of Ibn al-Tayyihan, Abu al-Haytham al-Ansari." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) walked ahead of us. He gave the greeting of peace and asked for permission three times. Umm al-Haytham was behind the door, hearing the speech and wanting the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to increase [the number of] his greetings. When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) intended to turn away, Umm al-Haytham came out running after them and said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I heard your greeting, but I wanted you to increase your greetings to us." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said something good to her and said, "Where is Abu al-Haytham? I do not see him." She said, "He is nearby; he went to fetch fresh water for us. Enter, for he will come at any moment, if Allah wills." She spread a mat for them under a tree. Abu al-Haytham came, rejoiced at their presence, and his eyes were gladdened by them. He climbed a palm tree and cut a cluster of dates for them. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "That is enough for you, O Abu al-Haytham." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, eat from its unripe dates, its ripe dates, and its dried dates." Then he brought them water, and they drank upon it. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "This is from the bliss about which you will be asked." Abu al-Haytham stood up to slaughter a sheep for them, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him, "Beware of the milch animal." Umm al-Haytham stood up to knead dough for them and bake. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), Abu Bakr, and Umar laid their heads down for a midday nap. They awoke, and their food was ready. The food was placed before them, and they ate and were satisfied, and they praised Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He). Umm al-Haytham brought them the rest of the clusters, and they ate from its ripe dates and its dried dates. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) greeted them and prayed for them.
