Musnad Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA)

Hadith 2:65

Ahmad ibn Hatim al-Tawil narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Aziz ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Salih ibn Muhammad ibn Za'idah, from Salim, from his father, from his grandfather Umar ibn al-Khattab, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever you find who has committed ghulul (stealing from the spoils of war), strike him and burn his belongings." He said: So I entered upon Maslamah ibn Abd al-Malik, and he had seized a man who had committed ghulul. He called for Salim, and he narrated the hadith to him. He said: So he burned his belongings, and he found a Mushaf (copy of the Quran) among his belongings. He appraised the Mushaf and gave its value in charity.
