Abu Kurayb narrated to us, Waki’ narrated to us, Ishaq bin Uthman al-Kilabi narrated to us, Isma’il bin Abd al-Rahman bin Atiyyah al-Ansari narrated to us, he said: My grandmother, Umm Atiyyah, narrated to me, she said: When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived in Medina, he gathered the women of the Ansar in a house. Then he sent Umar to us. He stood and gave the greeting of peace, and we returned the greeting to him. He said: "I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah to you." We said: "Welcome to the Messenger of Allah and to the messenger of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." She said: He said: "Do you pledge allegiance to me that you will not commit adultery, you will not steal, you will not kill your children, you will not bring forth a slander that you fabricate between your hands and your feet, and you will not disobey in what is good?" We said: "Yes." She said: We extended our hands from inside the house, and he extended his hand from outside it. He commanded us to bring out the menstruating women and the young virgins for the two Eids, and he forbade us from following funeral processions, and there is no Friday prayer upon us. He said: I said: "What is the 'good' (ma'ruf) that you were forbidden from?" She said: "Wailing."
