Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 209:123

Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (SAW)

أم سلمة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم

Hadith 209:123

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Abu Mu'awiya narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from his father, from Zaynab bint Umm Salama, from Umm Salama, who said: Umm Habiba came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you like to marry my sister?" He said: "And what would I do with her?" She said: "You marry her." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to her: "And do you like that?" She said: "I said: 'Yes, I am not the only one for you, and the most deserving of those who share in my goodness is my sister.'" She said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "She is not lawful for me." She said: "By Allah, it has reached me that you are proposing to Durra bint Umm Salama." She said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Even if she were lawful, I would not have married her. She and her father were both nursed by Thuwayba, the freedwoman of Banu Hashim. So do not offer me your daughters nor your sisters."
