Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 209:149
Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (SAW)
Hadith 209:149
Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Zayd ibn al-Hubab al-Ukli narrated to us, he said: Usama ibn Zayd informed me, he said: Abdullah ibn Rafi’ narrated to me, he said: I heard Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying: I was sitting with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when two men came disputing over things that had become worn out and perished. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "I only judge between you regarding something about which nothing has been revealed to me. Whoever I judge in his favor with an argument I see, and he thereby severs a portion of his brother’s wealth, then he only severs for himself a piece of the Fire, which will be a yoke upon his neck on the Day of Resurrection." The two men wept and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my right which I am seeking is for my brother." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "No, but go and divide it, and aim for what is right, then let each one of you absolve his companion."
