Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 209:29

Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Ibn Umar ibn Abi Salamah, from his father, from Umm Salamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "If a calamity befalls any one of you, let him say: 'To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek reward for my calamity, so reward me for it and replace it for me with something better than it.'" When Abu Salamah passed away, she said: I said: "To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek reward for my calamity, so reward me for it." But when I wanted to say "and replace it for me with something better than it," I said: "And who is better than Abu Salamah?" She said: I did not cease [hesitating] until I said it. When her waiting period (iddah) ended, Abu Bakr proposed to her, and she rejected him. Then Umar proposed to her, and she rejected him. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent to her and proposed to her. She said: "Welcome to the Messenger of Allah and his messenger. Convey my greetings to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and inform him that I am a jealous woman, that I have young children, and that none of my guardians are present." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to her: "As for your saying that you are jealous, I will supplicate to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and He will remove your jealousy. As for your saying that you have young children, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will suffice you for your children. As for your guardians, there is no one among them, present or absent, who will not be pleased with me." She said to her son: "Stand up, O Umar, and marry me to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)." So he married her to him. He said to her: "I will not give you less than what I gave your sister, so-and-so: two jars, two hand-mills, and a leather pillow stuffed with palm fibers." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to visit her while she was nursing Zaynab. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would come, she would take her and place her in her lap. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was shy and noble, so Ammar ibn Yasir—who was her foster brother—noticed this. One day, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) intended to visit her, and Ammar came and entered upon her. He snatched Zaynab from her lap and said: "Leave this ugly, wretched girl who has annoyed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)!" Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came and entered. He began turning his gaze around the house and saying: "Where is Zanab? What has happened to Zanab? Why do I not see Zanab?" She said: "Ammar came and took her away." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) consummated the marriage with his wife, and he said to her: "If you wish, I will stay with you for seven days, just as I stayed with the [other] women for seven days."
