Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 101:1

Hawtharah narrated to us, Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, from Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an, that Urwah bin Mas'ud al-Thaqafi said to his people at the time of al-Hudaybiyah: "O my people, I have seen kings and spoken to them, so send me to Muhammad so that I may speak to him." He came to him at al-Hudaybiyah, and Urwah began speaking to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and reaching for the beard of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah was standing at the head of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, fully armed. Al-Mughirah said to him, "Withdraw your hand before it does not reach you." Urwah raised his head and said, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am al-Mughirah." He said, "By Allah, you are still in your treachery, from which you have not yet emerged." Urwah returned to his people and said, "O my people, I have seen kings and spoken to them, and I have never seen anyone like Muhammad. He is not a king. I have seen the sacrificial animals restrained, eating their own fur. I do not see for you anything but that a calamity will strike you." He departed with those who were with him from his people, then he climbed the wall of Ta'if and testified that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. A man from his people shot him with an arrow and killed him. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "Praise be to Allah who has placed in my nation someone like the companion of Yasin."
