Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 38:1

Usayd ibn Hudayr (RA) from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 38:1

Zahmūyah narrated to us, Yahyā ibn Zakariyyā ibn Abī Zā’idah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishāq narrated to us, from Husayn ibn ‘Abd al-Rahmān, from Mahmūd ibn Labīd, from Ibn Shafī‘—who was a physician—who said: Usayd ibn Hudayr summoned me, so I cauterized his sciatica for him. He then narrated two hadiths to me. He said: "People from two households of my tribe came to me—a household from Zafar and a household from Banū Mu‘āwiyah—and they said: 'Speak to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) so that he may divide [wealth] for us or give us,' or something similar to this. So I spoke to him, and he said: 'Yes, I will divide for each household among them a portion, and if Allah bestows upon us, we will bestow upon them.' I said: 'May Allah reward you with good, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'And you, may Allah reward you with good, for you are—as far as I know—chaste and patient.'" He said: "And I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say: 'You will encounter selfishness after me.' When it was the time of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb, he distributed garments among the people, and he sent one of those garments to me. I considered it small, so I gave it to my daughter. While I was praying, a young man from Quraysh passed by me wearing a garment from those garments, dragging it. I remembered the saying of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): 'You will encounter selfishness after me,' so I said: 'Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.'" "A man went to ‘Umar and informed him, so he came while I was praying and said: 'Pray, O Usayd.' When I finished my prayer, he said: 'What did you say?' I informed him, and he said: 'That was a garment I sent to so-and-so, and he is a veteran of Badr, a veteran of ‘Aqabah, and a veteran of Uhud. This young man came to him and bought it from him, then wore it. I thought that would happen in my time.' I said: 'By Allah, O Commander of the Faithful, I thought that would not happen in your time.'"
