Musnad Ahmad 10:18

Abu Salamah Yusuf ibn Ya'qub al-Majishun narrated to us, from Salih ibn Ibrahim ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, from his father, from his grandfather Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, that he said: I was standing on the day of Badr in the row. I looked to my right and to my left, and behold, I was between two youths from the Ansar, young in age. I wished that I were between those who were stronger than them. One of them nudged me and said: "O uncle, do you know Abu Jahl?" I said: "Yes, and what is your need, O son of my brother?" He said: "It has reached me that he insulted the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. By the One in whose hand is my soul, if I see him, my shadow shall not depart from his shadow until the one of us who is destined to die sooner, dies." He said: Then the other nudged me and said the same thing to me. He said: I was amazed at that. He said: I had not waited long when I looked at Abu Jahl moving among the people. I said to them: "Do you not see? This is your companion whom you were asking about." They rushed toward him, and he met them, and they struck him until they killed him. Then they went to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and informed him. He said: "Which of you killed him?" Each of them said: "I killed him." He said: "Have you wiped your swords?" They said: "No." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, looked at the two swords and said: "Both of you killed him." He decreed his spoils for Mu'adh ibn Amr ibn al-Jamuh. They were Mu'adh ibn Amr ibn al-Jamuh and Mu'adh ibn Afra.
