Musnad Ahmad 10:3

Sufyan narrated to us, from ‘Amr, who heard Bajalah say: I was a scribe for Juz’ ibn Mu‘awiyah—the paternal uncle of al-Ahnaf ibn Qays—and a letter from ‘Umar reached us one year before his death: "Execute every sorcerer"—and Sufyan sometimes said: "and every sorceress"—"and separate every two people who are mahram (prohibited for marriage) among the Magians, and forbid them from the *zamzamah* (muttering during meals)." So we executed three sorceresses, and we began to separate between a man and his female relative according to the Book of Allah. Juz’ prepared a large amount of food, placed a sword upon his thigh, and invited the Magians. They cast down a mule-load—or two mule-loads—of silver, and they ate without *zamzamah*. ‘Umar had not taken—and Sufyan sometimes said: "accepted"—the *jizyah* from the Magians, until ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf testified that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took it from the Magians of Hajar. My father said: And Sufyan said: Bajalah performed Hajj with Mus‘ab in the year seventy.
