Musnad Ahmad 27:1037

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Thabit: I asked Ibn ‘Umar about the *nabidh* (fermented drink) of the earthen jar; did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbid it? He said, "They claim that." I said, "Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbid it?" He said, "They have claimed that." I said, "Did you hear it from him?" He said, "They have claimed that." Then Allah turned it away from me. And it was such that if it were said to one of them, "Did you hear it?" he would become angry and they would dispute with him.
