Musnad Ahmad 27:110

Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Kill the snakes, and the *dhu al-tufyatayn* (the one with two white lines) and the *abtar* (the short-tailed one), for they both snatch away the sight and cause the miscarriage of the pregnant." Ibn Umar used to kill every snake he found. Abu Lubabah or Zayd ibn al-Khattab saw him while he was chasing a snake, and he said: "Indeed, it has been forbidden [to kill] those of the houses."
