Musnad Ahmad 27:112

Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, who said: I heard the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, being asked: "How is the night prayer performed?" He said: "Let one of you pray two by two. Then, if he fears the morning, let him pray one [rak'ah] as witr."
