Musnad 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA)
Hadith 27:1222
Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, Abu Aqil narrated to us, from Barakah ibn Yala al-Taymi, Abu Suwayd al-Abdi narrated to me, he said: We came to Ibn Umar and sat at his door so that permission might be granted to us. He said: The permission was delayed for us. He said: So I stood up to a hole in the door and began to look through it, and he noticed me. When permission was granted to us, we sat down. He said: "Which of you looked into my house just now?" I said: "I did." He said: "By what right did you deem it lawful to look into my house?" I said: "The permission was delayed for us, so I looked, and I did not intend that." He said: Then they asked him about things, and he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "Islam is built upon five: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, the establishment of prayer, the giving of zakat, the pilgrimage to the House, and the fasting of Ramadan." I said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what do you say about jihad?" He said: "Whoever strives (jihad), he only strives for his own soul."
