Musnad 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA)

Hadith 27:1298

Yahya ibn Ghaylan narrated to us, Rushdin narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn al-Harith narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn ‘Abd Allah, who narrated to him from Ibn ‘Umar, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to give ‘Umar a gift. ‘Umar would say to him, “Give it, O Messenger of Allah, to someone who is in greater need of it than I am.” The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him, “Take it and possess it, or give it in charity. Whatever comes to you of this wealth while you are not coveting it and not asking for it, then take it; and whatever is not like that, do not let your soul pursue it.” Salim said: Because of that, Ibn ‘Umar would not ask anyone for anything, and he would not refuse anything.
