Musnad Ahmad 27:1443

Mu'ammal narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Abdullah ibn Dinar, who said: I heard Ibn 'Umar say: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The likeness of this nation—or he said: my nation—and the likeness of the Jews and the Christians is like a man who said: 'Who will work for me from the morning until midday for a qirat?' The Jews said: 'We will,' and they did so. Then he said: 'Who will work for me from midday until the time of the 'Asr prayer for a qirat?' The Christians said: 'We will,' and they worked. And you, the Muslims, work from the time of the 'Asr prayer until nightfall for two qirats. The Jews and the Christians became angry and said: 'We did more work and received less pay.' He said: 'Did I wrong you in any way regarding your pay?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'Then that is My bounty, which I bestow upon whom I will.'"
