Hadith 27:1523
'Abd al-Samad narrated to me, my father narrated to me, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Suhayb narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Wahid al-Bannani, who said: I was with Ibn 'Umar when a man came to him and said: "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, I buy these orchards in which there are grapes, and we are unable to sell them all as grapes until we press them [into wine]." He said: "Are you asking me about the price of wine? I will tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he raised his head toward the sky, then lowered it, and poked the ground, and said: 'Woe to the Children of Israel.'" 'Umar said to him: "O Prophet of Allah, your statement about the Children of Israel has frightened us." He said: "There is no harm upon you from that. When fats were forbidden to them, they colluded regarding them, so they sold them and consumed their price. And likewise, the price of wine is forbidden to you."
