Hashim narrated to us, Abd al-Aziz—meaning Ibn Abd Allah ibn Abi Salamah—narrated to us, Ibn Shihab informed us, from Salim, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed, Bilal calls the adhan at night, so eat and drink until you hear the adhan of Ibn Umm Maktum." He said: "And Ibn Umm Maktum was a blind man who could not see; he would not call the adhan until the people said to him: 'You have called the adhan, morning has come.'"
