Musnad 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA)

Hadith 27:1787

Hajjaj narrated to us, Layth narrated to us, he said: Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn Abdullah, that Abdullah ibn Umar said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, performed Tamattu’ during the Farewell Pilgrimage by combining the Umrah with the Hajj. He offered a sacrificial animal (hadi), so he drove the sacrificial animal with him from Dhu al-Hulayfah. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, began by entering into the state of Ihram for Umrah, then he entered into the state of Ihram for Hajj. The people performed Tamattu’ with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, by combining the Umrah with the Hajj. Among the people were those who offered a sacrificial animal and drove it, and among them were those who did not offer a sacrificial animal. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived in Makkah, he said to the people: "Whoever among you has offered a sacrificial animal, he shall not exit the state of Ihram from anything he was prohibited from until he completes his Hajj. And whoever among you has not offered a sacrificial animal, let him perform Tawaf of the House and between Safa and Marwah, and let him shorten his hair and exit the state of Ihram, then let him enter into the state of Ihram for Hajj and offer a sacrificial animal. Whoever does not find a sacrificial animal, let him fast three days during the Hajj and seven when he returns to his family." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, performed Tawaf when he arrived in Makkah. He touched the Corner (the Black Stone) first, then he jogged (ramal) for three of the seven circuits, and walked for four circuits. Then, when he finished his Tawaf of the House, he prayed two rak'ahs at the Maqam (Station of Ibrahim), then he gave the salutation and departed. He came to Safa and performed Tawaf between Safa and Marwah. He did not exit the state of Ihram from anything he was prohibited from until he completed his Hajj. He slaughtered his sacrificial animal on the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr), then he performed Ifadah (Tawaf al-Ifadah), performing Tawaf of the House, and then he exited the state of Ihram from everything he was prohibited from. Those among the people who had offered a sacrificial animal and driven it did the same as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did.
