Musnad 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA)

Hadith 27:184

Isma'il and Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, they said: Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, who said: Ibn Ja'far said in his narration: Ibn Shihab informed us, from Salim, from his father, that Ghaylan ibn Salamah al-Thaqafi embraced Islam while he had ten wives under him. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to him: "Choose four from among them." When it was the time of 'Umar, he divorced his wives and divided his wealth among his sons. This reached 'Umar, so he said: "I truly think that the devil, in what he steals of hearing, heard of your death and cast it into your soul. Perhaps you will not remain except for a little while. By Allah, you shall take back your wives and you shall return to your wealth, or I will make them inherit from you, and I will order your grave to be stoned, just as the grave of Abu Righal was stoned."
