Musnad 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA)
Hadith 27:1880
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, who said: I heard Ibn 'Umar saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Whoever drags his lower garment out of pride, Allah the Mighty and Majestic will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection." Zayd said: Ibn 'Umar used to narrate that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw him while he was wearing a lower garment that was rustling—meaning it was new—so he said: "Who is this?" I said: "I am 'Abd Allah." He said: "If you are 'Abd Allah, then raise your lower garment." He said: So I raised it. He said: "Raise it more." He said: So I raised it until it reached the middle of the shin. He said: Then he turned to Abu Bakr and said: "Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Bakr said: "My lower garment sometimes slips," so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You are not one of them."
