Musnad Ahmad 27:230

Yahya narrated to us, from Ubaydullah, from Nafi’, from Ibn Umar, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took a ring of gold, and he used to place its stone towards his palm. So the people took [for themselves] rings, then he threw it away and took a ring of silver."
