Musnad Ahmad 27:416

Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad—meaning Ibn ‘Amr—informed us, from Yahya ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Hatib, that he narrated to them, from Ibn ‘Umar, that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood at the well on the day of Badr and said: "O so-and-so, O so-and-so, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? By Allah, they are hearing my speech now." Yahya said: ‘A’ishah said: May Allah forgive Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman, for he has erred. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) only said: "By Allah, they know now that what I used to say to them was the truth." And Allah the Exalted says: "Indeed, you will not make the dead hear" [An-Naml: 80] and "And you are not one who can make those in the graves hear" [Fatir: 22].
