Musnad Ahmad 27:529

Ishaq ibn Sulayman and Abdullah ibn al-Harith narrated to us, they said: Hanzalah narrated to us, I heard Salim say: I heard Abdullah ibn Umar say: Umar ibn al-Khattab brought a garment of silk brocade to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you were to buy this garment to wear when delegations of people come to you?" He said: "Only he who has no share [in the Hereafter] wears this." Then three garments were brought to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He sent a garment to Umar, a garment to Ali, and a garment to Usamah ibn Zayd. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with his garment and said: "O Messenger of Allah, you sent this to me, yet I heard you say about it what you said?" He said: "I only sent it to you so that you might sell it or tear it into head-coverings for your family." Ishaq said in his narration: And Usamah came to him wearing the garment, so he said: "I did not send it to you for you to wear it; I only sent it to you so that you might sell it." I do not know if he said to Usamah, "tear it into head-coverings" or not. Abdullah ibn al-Harith said in his narration: That he heard Salim ibn Abdullah say: I heard Abdullah ibn Umar say: Umar found [it], and he mentioned its meaning.
