He said: I found in my father’s book: Yazid narrated to us, Shu’bah informed us, from Jabalah ibn Suhaym, who said: Ibn al-Zubayr used to provide us with dates, and the people were in a state of hardship at that time. He said: Then ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar passed by us and forbade us from pairing [dates], and he said: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade pairing, unless a man asks his brother for permission."
