Musnad Ahmad 27:646

'Abd al-A'la ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, from Yahya—meaning Ibn Abi Ishaq—from Salim ibn 'Abdullah, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, who said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab saw a garment of silk brocade in the market and said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you were to buy this garment for the delegations." He said: "Indeed, only he wears silk—or he said: this—who has no share [in the Hereafter]." He said: I think he said: "in the Hereafter." He said: Then, after that, a garment of it was brought to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he sent it to 'Umar. He disliked it, so he came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "O Prophet of Allah, you sent it to me, yet you said regarding it what I heard: 'Indeed, only he wears silk—or he said: this—who has no share [in the Hereafter].'" He said: "I did not send it to you so that you might wear it, but I sent it to you so that you might obtain a price for it." Salim said: It was because of this hadith that Ibn 'Umar used to dislike [wearing] a mark (or embroidery) on a garment.
