Musnad Ahmad 27:657

Muhammad ibn Abdullah narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Dinar, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever does not find a pair of sandals, let him wear leather socks (khuffayn), and let him cut them until they are below the ankles."
