Musnad Ahmad 27:870

'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Abd al-Majid al-Thaqafi narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Nafi', that Ibn 'Umar used to lease his land during the time of Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and part of the reign of Mu'awiyah. He said: "And if I wished, I would have said: during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." Until, in the latter part of Mu'awiyah's rule, a hadith from Rafi' ibn Khadij reached him. He went—and I was with him—and asked him about it. He said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the leasing of farms." So, he stopped leasing them. Thereafter, whenever he was asked about it, he would say: "Ibn Khadij claims that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the leasing of farms."
