Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

مسند عبد الله بن العباس بن عبد المطلب (1) ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم

Hadith 25:1007

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, 'Ata' informed me that he heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: "If you are able that none of you should go out on the day of Fitr until he has eaten, then let him do so." He [the narrator] said: "I have not ceased to eat before I go out since I heard that from Ibn 'Abbas. So I eat a morsel of food, or I drink milk, or water." I [the narrator] said: "Upon what is this based?" He said: "He heard it, I think, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." He said: "They would not go out until the forenoon had extended, and they would say: 'We eat so that we do not hasten away from our prayer.'"

حدثنا عبد الرزاق، أخبرنا ابن جريج، أخبرني عطاء، أنه سمع ابن عباس، يقول: " إن استطعتم أن لا يغدو أحدكم يوم الفطر حتى يطعم، فليفعل " قال: " فلم أدع أن آكل قبل أن أغدو منذ سمعت ذلك من ابن عباس، فآكل من طرف الصريقة الأكلة، أو أشرب اللبن، أو الماء، قلت: فعلام يؤول هذا؟ قال: سمعه أظن عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم "، قال: " كانوا لا يخرجون حتى يمتد الضحاء، فيقولون: نطعم لئلا نعجل عن صلاتنا "
