Musnad Ahmad 25:1082

'Uthman ibn 'Umar narrated to us, Yunus narrated to me, from al-Zuhri, from Yazid ibn Hurmuz: That Najdah al-Haruri, when he emerged during the tribulation of Ibn al-Zubayr, sent to Ibn 'Abbas asking him about the share of the kinsfolk: "To whom do you consider it to be?" He said: "It is for us, due to the kinship of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, divided it among them." 'Umar had offered us a portion of it, but we saw it as being less than our right, so we returned it to him and refused to accept it. What he had offered them was: that he would assist their unmarried, pay off the debts of their debtors, and give to their poor, but he refused to give them more than that.
