Musnad Ahmad 25:1099

Uthman ibn Umar narrated to us, he said: Ibn Abi Dhi'b informed us, from Sa'id ibn Khalid, from Isma'il ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Ata' ibn Yasar, from Ibn Abbas, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) went out to them while they were sitting in a gathering of theirs, and he said: "Shall I not inform you of the best of people?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "A man holding the rein of his horse in the way of Allah until he dies or is killed. Shall I inform you of the one who follows him?" We said: "Yes." He said: "A man who isolates himself in a mountain pass, establishes prayer, gives zakat, and keeps away from the evils of people. Shall I inform you of the worst of people in status?" They said: "Yes." He said: "The one who asks by Allah, but is not given by Him."
