Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 25:1118

Waki’ narrated to us, from Isra’il, from Simak, from Sa’id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The devils used to have seats in the sky, and they would listen to the revelation. The stars would not move, and the devils would not be pelted. He said: So when they heard the revelation, they would descend to the earth and add nine [words] to the word. When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was sent, whenever a devil would sit in his seat, a shooting star would come to him, not missing him until it burned him. He said: They complained about that to Iblis, and he said: "This is only because of an event that has occurred." He said: So he dispatched his soldiers. He said: "And behold, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was standing, praying between the two mountains of Nakhla." He said: They returned to Iblis and informed him. He said: So he said: "It is he who has caused the event."
