Musnad Ahmad 25:1244

Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 25:1244

'Abd al-Samad and Hasan ibn Musa narrated to us, they said: Hammad narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Zayd. My father said: 'Affan narrated it to us, Ibn Salamah narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Zayd informed us, from Yusuf ibn Mihran, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: When 'Uthman ibn Maz'un died, his wife said: "Congratulations to you, O Ibn Maz'un, for Paradise." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at her with a look of anger and said to her: "What makes you know? For by Allah, I am the Messenger of Allah, and I do not know what will be done with me" — 'Affan said: "nor with him." She said: "O Messenger of Allah, your companion and your friend." That weighed heavily upon the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he said that regarding 'Uthman, for he was one of the best of them. Until Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), died, and he said: "Join our righteous predecessor, 'Uthman ibn Maz'un." He said: The women wept, and 'Umar began to strike them with his whip. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to 'Umar: "Leave them to weep, and beware of the croaking of Satan." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whatever comes from the heart and the eye is from Allah and is mercy, and whatever comes from the hand and the tongue is from Satan." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sat at the edge of the grave, and Fatimah was by his side weeping. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began to wipe the eyes of Fatimah with his garment, out of mercy for her.
