Musnad Ahmad 25:1255

Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said: 'Amr ibn 'Ata' informed me, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he used to say: "There is no *sarurah* (celibacy/refraining from marriage) in Islam." Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said: Husayn ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abbas and Dawud ibn 'Ali narrated to me that a man called out to Ibn 'Abbas while the people were around him and said: "Is this *nabidh* (a drink made from soaked dates or raisins) a tradition you seek, or is it lighter for you than honey and milk?" Ibn 'Abbas said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came to Al-'Abbas and said: "Give us to drink." He said: "Indeed, this *nabidh* is a drink that has been soaked and stirred; shall we not give you milk and honey to drink?" He said: "Give me to drink from what you give the people to drink." He said: So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was brought [a drink], and his companions from the Emigrants and the Helpers were with him, in large wooden bowls containing *nabidh*. When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, drank, he hastened before he was fully quenched, then he raised his head and said: "You have done well; do it like this." Ibn 'Abbas said: The approval of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for that is more pleasing to me than if its mountain passes were to flow with milk and honey for us.
